🔍 Role Snapshot

We are looking for an experienced Database & Systems Administrator to join our growing tech team. You’ll work closely with platform engineers to provision, manage, and optimize MySQL and PostgreSQL databases on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and a hybrid AWS-style on-prem environment. You’ll champion performance, availability, automation, and data security.

🎯 Key Responsibilities

🗄️ Database Provisioning & Upgrades

• Install and configure MySQL 8+ and PostgreSQL 15+ on GCP Cloud SQL or self-managed Compute Engine instances.

• Perform routine patching and assist with major upgrades and version migrations.

🔧 Routine Database Administration

• Manage users, roles, and parameter groups (my.cnf, postgresql.conf).

• Schedule, validate, and execute backups using Percona XtraBackup, pg_dump, or pg_basebackup.

• Conduct restore drills using detailed run-books.

📊 Monitoring & Performance Tuning

• Build dashboards and alerts using Cloud Monitoring, PMM, or Grafana.

• Profile slow queries, recommend optimizations, and escalate for deep performance tuning.

🔁 Replication & High Availability

• Deploy and monitor read-replica/primary-replica topologies.

• Execute documented failover procedures during incidents.

🔐 Security & Compliance

• Enforce least-privilege access, SSL/TLS, and IAM-based role management.

• Perform data masking/anonymization in non-production environments.

🤖 Automation & CI/CD

• Develop scripts in Bash/Python to automate health checks and system audits.

• Integrate Liquibase/Flyway migration steps into Cloud Build or GitHub Actions pipelines.

🖥️ Linux & Web Stack Administration

• Administer packages, users, firewalls on Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS.

• Configure and tune Apache/httpd and Tomcat servers.

☁️ Cloud Operations

• Provision resources using Google Cloud SQL, Compute Engine, and manage IAM policies.

• Mirror setups in an AWS-style on-prem lab with EC2-like VMs and S3-compatible storage.

🚨 Incident Response & On-Call

• Participate in on-call rotation, triage incidents, collect logs, and escalate as needed.

📝 Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

• Maintain detailed SOPs, run-books, and change logs.

• Share knowledge through Confluence or Google Docs.
